My Strengths Snapshot
The five strengths that empower and influence how I learn, work, and solve problems
1.0 Analysis of My Strengths:
1.1 Analytical
I chose Analytical because I naturally like to understand how and why things work rather than simply accepting someone else's opinion. In school and at work, I often break difficult problems into smaller pieces and look for evidence before deciding on an answer. My engineering background has strengthened this habit because solving technical problems requires careful examination of available facts. I also use this strength in everyday situations when I am trying to determine a course of action based on different path choices to a solution.
1.2 Empathy
An Empathetic person, I try to understand what other people are experiencing and how they may feel by putting myself in their "shoes." I think this is especially important when working with others, whether they are colleagues or classmates. Rather than assuming that someone understands something the same way I do, I try to consider their perspective. This helps me communicate more patiently and build better relationships with the people I work and study with.
1.3 Futuristic
As a Futuristic individual, I spend a lot of time thinking about what I can accomplish in the future. As a college student working toward a computer science degree after already acquiring an engineering education, I often think about how my education can lead to new opportunities. I research projects I could build, skills I could develop, and ways I can combine my engineering and computer science skills. Thinking about the future also motivates me when a difficult project becomes frustrating because I can see how the work I am doing now can contribute to my long-term goals and asperations.
1.4 Learner
I consider myself a life-long Learner because I genuinely enjoy gaining new knowledge and developing new skills. My experience returning to college has required me to learn subjects that are very different from some of my previous engineering coursework, especially data structures and other additional computer science concepts. Learning is a process that is rewarding. This strength also shows up outside of school because I am willing to research a problem until I understand it.
1.5 Positivity
Positivity was my choice because I try to maintain a positive attitude even when something does not go according to plan. College can be challenging, especially when learning complicated technical subjects, but I try to focus on timely progress by taking small "bites." A positive attitude can and should be contagious. In group situations, I try to encourage others and help create an environment where people feel that a difficult problem is capable of being solved.
2.0 Closing
The strength I most want to develop further is Futuristic. I want to become better at turning my ideas about the future into specific goals and objectives that will result in real world applications. Setting academic and career goals, I hope to combine my engineering experience with my newly acquired computer science skills.
